How To Use This Site

The least intuitive part of the site is that, in my interest to provide lots of content in a dense format, I cite sources and integrate links into my content. I do a lot of poking around on the internet and a fair amount of reading offline. I think you'll get the most out of what I share by following as many links as you can. They're sometimes less-than-obvious, but I'm just twisted enough to think that makes it somehow enjoyable for the careful reader. Look for the bold text - more often than not, it's a link.

Explanation of Extended Leave

For those of you who follow the site regularly, you've noticed that I've been away for about a month. Away from publishing, anyway. Until the site is generating revenues, it's hard to justify spending time on it. I look forward to adding Google ads soon and hope that they will generate enough income to justify increased time with this project. Until then, check out another social entrepreneurial endeavor, here. This site was inspired by the first entry on Guerilla Green. Otherwise, I'll be publishing on a regular, though less frequent basis until we can tip the scales for revenues, here.

Toxic Substance Warning Notice

It would be nice to mandate these in every city. This one is something I discovered in Los Angeles.

Energy - Gotta Have it - At What Cost?

We use energy every day and in more aspects of our lives than most of us realize. What types and how much are further considerations that require reflection and have some not-so-fun implications. Still, it's important to think about these things. The energy we use and how we use it has a significant impact on our environmenta and our lives. These are a few resources I have found along the path of contemplation. I hope you find them useful.

This link is a bit of a cognitive stretch - please warm up before attempting ;-)

Collaboratorium -- Can We Exploit Collective Intelligence for Collaborative Deliberation? The Case of the Climate Change Collaboratorium

Regarding the challenge posed from paragraph 1 from the above article: Slashdot has a good system for user-identified quality filtering

And my favorite energy site - Can't believe I just added the link for I Love Mountains - check them out in the Friends section at right.

While we're on the subject of energy, I've got the following snippet about energey demand that's been floating around without a home:

Another quick thought that might appeal to the reader is the concept of peak-demand energy. This is familiar to folks in California, who suffer regular blackouts, but less familiar to many others. It's easy to remember because it makes sense; most energy is used during "peak times". We don't use as much when we're asleep. If you can think about the timing of your energy use, particularly when you're being energy intensive (air conditioning, electric cooking appliances, etc.), it will help ease the burden on the grid and on you, presuming more regulation takes place around energy, as you'll already have prepared for the sacrifices requested of you.

Cleaning Up the Cleanest Line: Separated Bike Lanes, Endangered Oceans, and the Challenge of "Organic"

The Cleanest Line brings us great information from the folks at patagonia. This article on Separated Bike Lanes is both informative and inspires hope. I''ve mentioned pocket guides before and this is their feature on seafood, which mentions one of the pocket guides I mentioned in the article here.

In an effort to cram some more content into this article, since I have some catching up to do on all the things I want to tell you about, I'll take this opportunity to link to their article on the complexities of 'organic', also featured in more depth elsewhere on Guerilla Green.
